(My Aunt is a survivor, so I collected some donations in her honor and walked with a few friends.)
2) My roommate and I decided to have a Mother's Day Celebration Bar-b-que for those of us that wouldn't be able to see our moms on mother's day. There are a lot of us whose families live in other states, so we thought it would be a good idea for all of us to get together.

The walk was amazing. It is a very emotional time for a lot of people. There are those in the crowd that are remembering loved ones that have lost the battle with breast cancer but there are also people that are celebrating their loved ones that are survivors. There was quite a mix of emotions but there was an underlying view that was held by all - breast cancer had effected someone that they love and they were there to walk for that person. I found myself getting choked up on several occasions, mostly by the shirts that people were wearing (see above picture). The race was a success.

The bar-b-que was a success as well. Everyone brought a side dish and we had an over abundance of food and fun. I heart Sunday bar-b-ques :) Plus, we thought it was a good idea idea to give our friends an option to being homesick. To be surrounded by others that aren't with their moms on mother's day is a little bit more comforting that being by yourself. Of course it isn't as great as being with your mom...

June 2006 - Prom - Chicago, IL

So our favorite neighborhood bar decided to play host to a Prom for all it's local patrons. There was a theme, which I am not going to mention here because it would make it sounds cheap and trashy (which it was almost anything but...). I remember hearing about last year but my gf wasn't exactly interested in attending, although she did want to wear a tux once in her lifetime. I have to say that I wasn't all too keen on the notion of going last year either but this year was a different story. My friend Kristi asked me to go as her date (I was a second choice for her and i gave her sh*t about it all night) and I said "what the hell". It turned out to be a really good time too. It's funny to see all your friends dressed up at the same bar that you have seen them in jeans and a t-shirt.
You ever been in a friend's wedding and they assure you that they wanted to get you a bridesmaids dress that you could definitely "wear again"? Well this was the only oppurtunity that I was actually able to wear one again (thanks Julie!). Still, how many ex-bridesmaids that you know go to a Gay Prom? Probably not a lot (unless they live near me...)
The night was so much fun too, the bar really went all out for the occasion too. They had decorations, prizes and crowned a Prom court (King, Queen, Jr. King and Jr. Queen) that we all voted for. All in all, it was the best Prom I had ever attended. June 2006 - PRIDEFEST Milwaukee, WI

So a few friends and I decided that it would be a good idea to visit another city's Pride festivities this summer. We decided on Milwaukee's because it was the week before I left for Thailand and it was a whole weekend festival that sounded too good to pass up (http://www.pridefest.com/). I was going to miss Chicago's Pride weekend, so this was an alternative for us all to be together for a Pride celebration. I have to say, my friends are the best :)

We got up there on a Saturday afternoon and checked into our swanky hotel. We had a "few" cocktails and then decided to pile in a cab and leave for the festival. The festival grounds are along the lake, it's actually where Milwaukee holds Summer Fest so it is a pretty big venue. the Fest itself was pretty amazing too. There were alot of supportive people at the Fest: Proud Parents, proud Family members, Proud Friends, as well as some GLBT people :) It is sad to say but there were also some protestors that were not so proud of us. They apparently didn't have anything better to do then to come to this wonderful event and try to spread their message of hate. It is a very sad message to bring to people that are celebrating PRIDE.
We met up with one of my good friend's friend that lives up there and she showed us an amazing time with her and her friends. They have a lovely bar up there that is the equivalent to our favorite neighborhood bar in Chicago (where Prom was hosted). We basically stayed around the neighborhood, bar hopped and met new new friends. It was amazing. We met some pretty good people too. We decided that we all need to partake in a Milwaukee/Chicago exchange program where we take turns hosting each other for a night of fun.

As for the Chicago girls, we had a blast with each other! I would count this as one of the best bonding weekends of the summer. Plain and simple, we really have a connection with each other and just have a gay ole time :) I look forward to MANY more wonderful times with this group of people, how I love them so...

Ok, until next time...

First timer...

I recently became aware of the fact that I have too much time on my hands and I should be doing something productive during the day. So here it is.

I thought I should start with an introduction.

I am a 27 year old woman that resides in Chicago, IL USA.
I a part time graduate student at a local university in Chicago.
I have a full time job.
I have recently become single (March) and I am getting used to being single (for the first time in 4 years.), it's quite an adjustment but I am managing it. I might talk about her every once in a while, but (hopefully) only to show the progress that I have made since the break up...
I am easily amused and like to laugh alot.
I love music and try to go to as many concerts as I possibly can. There is nothing more amazing to me than a musician on stage, armed with her/his guitar, lyrics, voice and presence.
I prefer female folk singers but I do not discriminate.
I prefer beer to liquor

I have alot to say but I am not necessarily the best writer and I am ok with that. I am still going to fill up this blog with events, stories and thoughts that I think are important.

Ok, so my first time wasn't so bad :)
